Each Manufacturer in the entrée manufacturer file must have a corresponding Manufacturer ID number. This number is made up of up to six digits. It actually is "alphanumeric" which means it can be composed of both numbers and letters. When setting up the entrée Manufacturer file for the first time it's important that some thought is given to the numbering sequence before actually entering Manufacturers.

The goal NECS encourages is that Manufacturer numbers have such a logical sequence that would make it possible to identify who the Manufacturer is simply by looking at the number.

Some distributors choose to start each Manufacturer ID number with the 3 letters from the manufacturer name, followed be a 3 digit numeric code.

This example will illustrate how Manufacturer ID may be derived.

              Manufacturer ID                  Manufacturer Name

        IBP010                            IBP

               LBW010                                  Lamb Weston
