Percentage based commission exceptions are useful, if the rates defined in the standard commission grid need to be modified on a per item or per class basis.

Percentage values entered for the commission exception will be applied to the gross profit of the item or the total sale amount of the item, depending on how the salesperson's commission setup file is configured.

For more information on the salesperson's commission setup file see the Commission Tab section of Salesperson File Maintenance.

1.Enter the standard percentage rate the salesperson should be paid when selling this item (or class) in the Commission % field.

2.Optionally enter a low commission percentage and dollar amount in the Low Commission Percent fields.

If these fields are defined, the salesperson will receive the low percentage rate for all sales where the unit price of the item (or class) was less than or equal to the low dollar amount.

3.Optionally enter a high commission percentage and dollar amount in the High Commission Percent fields.

If these fields are defined, the salesperson will receive the high percentage rate for all sales where the unit price of the item (or class) was less than or equal to the high dollar amount, but greater than the low dollar amount (if defined).

If an item cost $25.00 and the street price were $45.00, you would be pleased if the salesperson could sell the item for any amount over $45.00. Therefore you would provide a 15% commission on any sell price over $45.00. If the salesperson were able to sell the item between the $30.00 and $45.00 range, the commission earned would be 10%. If the salesperson sold the item below the $30.00 amount, only a 5% commission would be earned.

The Low and High Commission percentage values are completely optional. If you just wanted to override the standard percentage defined in the Commission Grid of Salesperson File Maintenance, you only need to enter that rate in the Commission % field.
